King Parrot Wee A Lot, Tip Hat to the Homeless in New Video

We fell pretty hard and fast for King Parrot when their notoriously nuts video for Shit On The Liver was released in 2012.

The opening scene for the comparatively short video is stuck in our psyches forever, not least of all when we see parking inspectors patrolling the streets. “It’s in the system” will never sound like a reasonable excuse ever again (wait…did it ever?).

Thus it’s exciting to see the Melbourne thrash band drop another video- just as expertly shot- for their new track Home Is Where The Gutter Is. Not only is it thoroughly entertaining, it tactfully addresses the stigma on homelessness with a pretty fresh perspective, courtesy of vocalist Matt Young, who told Noisey:

“There’s many people in the world forced into homelessness. Then there are people who just choose to be homeless and actually prefer to live that way. The lyrics and the video focus on these people should be entitled to live whatever way they choose. I think it’s one of the biggest fuck you’s to society a person can give and I admire it…It’s a pretty absurd and abstract message, but basically it just says shut the fuck up and let people live however they want. Most of society sucks and this is our salute to homeless dudes who don’t give a fuck and choose to live outside of the laws and expectations most people live by.”

It’s one of the most genuine sentiments we’ve seen in a music video for a while and we think extra points are awarded for use of the insult “cock neck”. Strangely satisfying to say, too.

While you’re on a video binge, best suss out the Shit On The Liver video:
