Leon Bridges: the new soul singer that could be Sam Cook reincarnate

I’ve been telling anyone within earshot about this kid for the better part of a year now.

And with good reason, he’s going to be a superstar.

With more soul than you could squeeze, a killer look that slices through the crowd, and an attitude that looks like it will serve him well in the face of fame, Leon Bridges has the potential to take the soul renaissance of the last half dozen years, turn it on its head, and reignite a whole new generation’s passion for real artistry in music.

A Fort Worth, Texas native, he was discovered by members of Austin rockers White Denim, who were attracted to the young man with the killer threads, before they ever heard him sing with the same smooth tones Sam Cook and Otis Redding once wooed the world with, when he performed his stunning original song, ‘Lisa Sawyer’ at an open mic night.

For the record, ‘Lisa Sawyer’ was written about Bridges’ mother and her baptism in a river. That sentence alone should be enough to convince you he is the real deal.

He’s now got a record contract with Columbia records and is set to release his debut album, Coming Home, on June 23.
