Someone is finally taking the piss outta Vice documentaries

Someone is finally taking the piss outta Vice documentaries

Make no mistake. Vice is great.

The media group can be self-important at times (okay almost all of the time) and it’s involvement with Murdoch’s News Corp feels a little counter intuitive to the network’s initial aspirations. Basically, it attracts a barrage of furious criticisms in the way that a only huge cultural phenomenon can and you can hardly hold it against them. But Vice, regardless of it’s infuriating ingenuity, definitely deserves this.

IFC has created their own parody of VICE documentaries starring Fred Armisen and Bill Hader and featuring Jack Black as a Shane Smith pisstake. It’s executive producer is the comedy world’s current hot ticket and new kid on the chat show circuit, Seth Meyers. Considering the network’s penchant for offbeat humour (see it’s flagship shows Portlandia, Comedy Bang Bang, Maron and The Increasingly Poor Decisions Of Todd Margaret) you can probably imagine the direction this series is headed in.

This episode (available to view in full) is part of a broader six episode series from US TV network IFC called Documentary Now, in which the Armisen and Hader parody every type of documentary out there.

Of course IFC is not avialable for online viewing for Australian audiences but you can see see this important episode of DRONEZ now in full.
