Wake up World! Australia’s most underrated band is touring again.
The very first time I witnessed The Peep Tempel live, I knew it was love.
I had been dragged kicking and screaming away from my comfort zone and into a poorly attended club event. One of those gigs where even if you graze somewhere close to the bar in the most noncommittal manner, you still manage to be closest to the stage. The Peep Tempel were utterly unperturbed by the turnout though. In fact, it felt like every awkward, angular note they hit was played in sheer defiance of the crowd. I stood to attention mid-set and drew my friend into my face by her collar, “THIS IS FUCKING INCREDIBLE”.
Every time I listen to The Peep Tempel I have the same reaction. Their casual mix of influences to form a haphazard, yet furious form of pub rock meets punk rock, is spot on. And their frontman’s ability to slip and and out of characters, each lending their own uniquely Australian personality to each tune ensures listeners are not just kept on their toes- they’re tugged by their haunches – not entirely unlike what I did to my mate on that fateful first night.
Watch the band’s most recent video for Big Fish- taken from their 2014 album Tales:
