Dan Cribb Steals ‘Tim & Eric’ Star For New Video, Great Job!
Perth’s Dan Cribb & The Isolated have combatted the challenge of forming a brand new band and releasing a fresh new song by nabbing Tim & Eric Awesome Show’s David Liebe Hart to perform in their first video. That’s one way to make an impression. The tasty punk hooks don’t hurt either.
The Perth trio (featuring sometimes-member Nick Deiner from Detroit’s The Swellers) formed a relationship with the awkward enigma online which lead them to collaborating with him when he was in the country in 2013. Blerg asked the band’s frontman some impossibly hard-hitting questions.
So, uh, how did you meet David Liebe Hart?
DC: I sent him an email out of the blue in 2012 after hearing he was coming to Australia. He wasn’t, but that sparked a conversation that led to an Australian tour for his punk band, David Liebe Hart Band, in 2013. I toured the country with him playing bass. It was an epic time and I can’t even begin to explain how funny, absurd, confusing and frustrating the whole experience was. I do have a lot of pictures and videos from that tour, though, so I might end up making a short film out of it at some point.
Are you a massive Tim and Eric fan?
DC: I’m a huge fan. Our drummer, Tom, and I were watching Tim & Eric Awesome Show when it first started airing and thought it was amazing. My love for punk rock and Tim & Eric had finally combined. After working with David on different projects, my view on the show has changed a lot. It’s funny watching new Tim & Eric projects and seeing David on the show. David has a lot of interesting stories about working with those two guys and other cast members like Richard Dunn and James Quall – according to David, what you see onscreen from all those supporting cast members is largely what they’re like in person.
If you could have another T&E character in your next video who would it be?
DC: Dr Steve Brule, but something tells me John C Reilly would be a little harder to get a hold of than old mate Liebe Hart.
Has he heard your album? Do you reckon he likes it?
DC: I gave him a copy of the album when he was in Perth. He had the single ‘The Last Time’ a couple of months before the shoot so he could familiarise himself with it, and said he liked the song and its themes. He’s a big country music fan but also likes punk rock and electronic music. It sure is a weird mix of music.
