Meet Saturday Night Live’s Newbie, Jon Rudnitsky
Saturday Night Live’s 41st season will launch on October 3.
I know, I know. The series has not been in form lately, what with a massive upheaval of key players a couple of years ago, but their current cast got stronger with each episode in Season 40 so we’ll be watching with baited breath this Autumn.
This season Lorne Michaels has given his almighty, all-consuming, world-shattering tick of approval to young 25 year old comic Jon Rudnitsky.
Who is he? Well he’s an impressive stand-up as well as a decent impressionist. His YouTube channel boasts some impressions that will almost certainly be making an appearance in seasons to come. He is also pretty handsome and not entirely dissimilar looking (attractive, well-groomed white male with chiseled jawline anyone?) to Weekend Update host Colin Jost.
Old mate hails from New Jersey and also hasn’t had a great deal of television experience ,with his most notable role to date being his debut on an episode of Criminal Minds in 2012. All that may be likely to change though. Observe some of his recent work.
True Detective/ Matthew McConaughey parody:
Or a tense Frank Underwood:
Not into it? You can try his dynamic, award-winning stand up routine on for size then:
SNL’s approach is near, and they’ve locked in the most scandalous (but to be fair, also one of the most talented) host they could muster in Miss Miley Cyrus. Amy Schumer will follow in week two and Tracy Morgan will make a much anticipated return to the screen after his horrific car accident last year. Sounds like reason enough to tune in.
