‘Twas a huge day of sequels news at E3

Well we knew this E3 conference was going to have some big reveals, but today seemed totally ridiculous in the scheme of things.

Three major titles were announced – two sequels and one remake no-one saw coming – that have essentially elevated the next 12-18 months to new heights of excitement for gamers.

Here are the three huge announcements from today:

Mass Effect: Andromeda

Firstly, there was the surprise announcement that the Mass Effect series would be returning with a new game, Andromeda.

Although the details are still very bare, from the trailer and it’s Johnny Cash soundtrack, it looks like the game is going to be some kind of wild west, gun slinger tale set in outer space:

Bioware have in fact revealed that although the game is set in the Mass Effect universe, you’ll be exploring an entire new universe to the previous series in an adventure taking place far away from and long after the events of the original trilogy.

It’s set for release in the holidays 2016.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End

Probably the one announcement we knew was coming, but it made its reveal any less awesome. The gameplay footage for Drake’s new adventure looks seamless and features the same great in game dialogue we’ve come to know and love from our lovable rogue hero. It’s good to see the return of his mentor Sully too, as well as some updated combat moves to keep things interesting:

Look for it on shelves March 2016.

Final Fantasy VII – Remake

And then there was the big one. After almost 20 years and several generations of Playstation, Final Fantasy VII – one of the original titles the Playstation built its reputation on – is going to have a complete remake for the Playstation 4.

One of the most entralling RPGs ever created, it still stands as the greatest of the entire Final Fantasy series. However it seems Square Enix have only just started production, so its release could still be years away. But considering how long we’ve waited as it is, I’m sure a lot of fans are prepared to hold out a little longer to relive those hours they spent racing Chocobos as a kid.
